Glossary
Some lenders charge annual fees. It is a lump sum cardholders have to pay every year for certain credit cards.
Direct Federal does NOT charge an annual fee.
The Annual Percentage Rate (APR) is the yearly interest rate that borrowers are charged on a sum of money. It is expressed as a percentage and represents the actual cost of funds over the term of a loan. This rate includes any fees or additional costs associated with the transaction but does not consider compounding. The APR is a helpful measure for consumers to compare among lenders as it provides a clear and standardized number.
Direct Federal does NOT charge any balance transfer fees. Some lenders charge balance transfer fees. It is a fee that's charged when you transfer credit card debt from one card to another. It's typically around 3% to 5% of the total amount you transfer with a minimum fee, often $5 to $10.
Example: You currently have a credit balance of $10,000 you want to transfer to a new card and the new card's balance transfer fee ss 3%, it would be calculated as:
$10,000 Amount to be Transferred X 3% Balance Transfer Fee = $300 Your cost to transfer the balance to the new card.
However, if you transfer to a Direct Federal card, it would cost you $0 to transfer the balance.
The rate for a transferred balance. Direct Federal offers 0.00% APR for the first 6 monthly billing statements, then the APR will be a low variable rate of Prime Rate plus 1.74%, until the transferred balance is paid in full.
The withdrawal of cash from your credit card. Some vendors use a separate rate for Cash Advances.
Direct Federal's Cash Advance Rate is the same as the Purchase Rate and we do not charge a cash advance fee.
Measure of interest rates generally that reflects trends in the overall economy. Different lenders use different indexes in their loans. Direct Federal uses The Wall Street Journal Prime Rate as posted on the last business day of the previous month.
Percentage that a lender adds to their index. Direct Federal calculates Credit Card rates using The Wall Street Journal Prime Rate (the index) plus a margin of 5.74%, 8.74% or 9.50% based on your creditworthiness.
The highest rate for a variable rate loan. At Direct Federal, the maximum rate is 18% APR.
Direct Federal is a not-for-profit, meaning that earnings are invested right back into the credit union. And that means Direct Federal can offer lower loan rates and higher deposit rates that you simply won't see anywhere else.
The Purchase Rate is applied to regular purchases made with a credit card. The purchase rate is applied to any unpaid purchase balances at the end of the billing cycle.

You will automatically be enrolled to receive all fraud alerts via the contact methods on your account, ie., email address, cell phone, home phone, work phone, etc.
Your card may be blocked for use and future transactions would be declined until the fraud alert is cleared.
Please report the unauthorized transaction immediately by calling the phone number provided in the alerts or the number on the back of your card. The agent will then take care of marking the transaction as fraud and close the card.
When you mark a transaction as fraudulent, the response message you receive will include our fraud detection department’s toll-free number and it asks that you call to review the card activity, or you will receive a call from a fraud detection agent to review. Fraud Alerts are transmitted to the phone number(s) and/or email address associated with the card used at the time of the transaction. If a joint cardholder is receiving alerts, it is because that cardholder’s phone number and/or email address is associated with the card transacting. If the fraud alerts should have gone to another cardholder on your account, we ask that you update the contact information for that cardholder.
If you accidentally opted of out text alerts from a mobile phone, when the digital system calls to verify activity, the system will provide the opportunity to opt back into text alerts for the mobile phone. For all fraud alert types, please call the number on the back of your card to re-enable fraud alerts to an email address, a mobile phone or landline phone number. You can also visit a branch for assistance.
