A co-founder of One Family Scholars and a visionary leader in moving families up and out of poverty, for more than 20 years Sr. Margaret has been a voice for the homeless in the city of Boston.

Nancy Schwoyer
As a co-founder of One Family Scholars, and believer in social change through hospitality, Nancy has led a supportive, giving community that serves the homeless on Cape Ann and beyond since 1981.

The Red Sox Foundation
The Red Sox Foundation is the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox. Their primary focus is in serving the health, education, recreation, and social service needs of children and families in need across New England. Our goal is to harness the passion our fans have for the Red Sox and transform into a vehicle for positive change in our community. 

One Family Inc. congratulates the class of 2008 One Family Scholars of the program, mothers who have lifted themselves out of poverty and who are now moving into family-sustaining careers.

The One Family Scholars program provides scholarships coupled with career development and leadership training for formerly homeless and at-risk mothers to attend college and set forth on a viable career path.  Selection is based on academic promise, leadership potential, demonstrated work ethic, and financial need. Scholars are striving to become leaders with the skills, knowledge, and credentials to inform and improve the systems that affect all at-risk families.  They view the program as a life- changing opportunity that in the words of one Scholar provides the “key to unlock an iron door.”

The long-term solution to family homelessness lies in strategies that promote economic independence and create affordable housing.  One Family’s Systems Change strategy includes working to implement a Housing First strategy to keep families in their homes or move them quickly from shelter to permanent housing, creating the stability that families need to enable them to focus on self-sufficiency.

This is why One Family, Inc. has created a two-pronged, replicable and measurable approach to ending family homelessness in Massachusetts:  Systems Change and the One Family Scholars program.
